vicarzI'm sick of these christian assholes shoving their garbage everywhere they can...this one is a response to a sample affidavit sent from a guy who talks about how his wife does all the cooking and cleaning:
Me:
I am very alarmed by this sample. The entire first paragraph quotes christian biblical text, which to the best of my understanding is not appropriate for a government agency. Furthermore, should the signatory to the document not be a christian, specifically one who practices interpretation of the bible as outlined in those statements, this document would be null and void (as in the case of a Buddhist).
I, ___________________________, the Undersigned, do hereby affirm the
following, pursuant to James 5:12, "But above all things my
brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither
by any other oath, but let your yea be yea, and your nay, nay; lest ye
fall into condemnation."
in a later section:
I do hereby reserve all rights given Me by the One True God.
and again in the notary line:
On this ______________ day of the ________________ month, in the year
of Our Lord, Nineteen hundred ninety-six,
which infers that the person is following the christian calendar.
I also am surprised this sort of language would be included even as a suggestion, given our environment. I notice that even when we (or some agencies) take sworn statements upon entry into the federal service or in a sworn affidavit such as this one, that we have changed the language to say something along the lines of: “Do you swear or affirm, answer yes or no, that…” so that the speaker does not have to give any cues as to their particular belief system in their answer, while they do commit that their statements are accurate regardless of their belief system.
I will seek further guidance before I use this sample in the case to which I am assigned. I’ll start with XXX since you advised I see her with my questions while you are out of town.
It's this inability I have to not address these issues that leads me to career pain, it really does. The christians in the office are well-networked, especially the hyper ones that say 'blessed' over and over. Bugger your blessings! Bless this!
