Dec. 19th, 2009 11:01 amAbout that bullshit that DC loses its mind in the snow:
I just came from Missouri where they cancelled (everything) because of 3" with a foot expected.
On that Missouri trip, on the way to the airport, I drove my auto-trans rental car past 2 cars and 2 trucks that had driven into ditches. They were so used to people doing that there was a coding system for it - they tied police tape to the antenna so you would know someone had already ensured there were no people stuck inside.
This only happens in the DC area about ever decade or so. We do not waste money, so we do not have a large fleet of snow removal equipment.
Nobody can drive in ice. This isn't what's going on here today, this is easy to drive in snow, but we are in the land inbetween where we get frozen rain, ice, slush, and that slippery stuff that almost nobody can drive in w/o chains or 4wd...and 4wd isn't that much better on ice.
I travel a lot - and in other cities where snow is common, they have a huge budget for snow removal.
So...I won't tell people to shut the fuck up, but after reading this it is likely if you're whining about dc losing it's mind due to a snowflake or to, you're now saying that knowing it is not true.
I'm annoyed - didn't count on losing metro rail service, I actually did walk to the farmer's market, people are scared of my skeleton ski mask (but Latino males seem to like it), and I'm not with my boo.
However, puppies outside are having a party, I have zombie movies, a big screen, and nacho makings.
EDIT oh and coffee makings. Do I need coffee? No. Now shut up and boil some water.
