Jan. 9th, 2007 07:21 amVa vs. Md. bar exams
Bar pass rate: Maryland 2002-61% 2001-65%, Virginia 2002-64% 2001-67%
MD - does not require the MPRE (ethics, only a 2.5 hour exam and I took the course). I'm not sure how I feel about MD not requiring the MPRE! Odd! It wouldn't be hard to take the classes as they are offerred downtown DC.
VA - more job opportunities, but I'm planning on staying gummint. I suppose if it was ever important enough to leave the gummint, and a VA firm was nudging me for it, I could take the VA bar exam at that point. I know that's crazy talk. MPRE passage req is 85%. It would be easier to take the classes since they teach them down the street at GMU.
DC - I take MD or VA and waive in - no option.
I might just take the MPRE for the heck of it. It's only $55 and 2.5 hours, and I took the class. I spoke with the professor last night (he teaches emp law too) and he assured us we would not be getting our exams anytime soon! Turns out a student hasn't taken the exam yet after getting an "exception" from the administration.
School looks not-sucky this term. My non-grade class looks harder than I expected, but the employment law class much easier. My trade secrets class spends a lot of time going over stuff I learned while writing an unrelated research paper, and the weekly readings are not bad. That just leaves commercial paper, which shouldn't be too bad as it's my only class tuth.
