Jul. 12th, 2005 07:57 amInterested in hiking? Hate us or find the schedule annoying? This group does hikes every Saturday from local DC area hikes to as far out as Shenandoah. They use bus pick-ups at stops like metro rail, charge $20ish, and sell beer $1.50 on the way back (basically at cost). Most hikes are 8am - 6pm, usually with a short and long option (long average 10 miles).

I will probably not do much with the group though it looks awesome, but I'm not willing to give up my current saturday gym routine.
I read the Pulitzer-prize winning book Guns, germs, and steel. Loved it, though it was a tad dry and perhaps a bit repetitive. Still, it tackled why the white guys won all the battles in early recorded history, they had guns, germs, and steel that the natives lacked. Duh. The question posed is why the conquerors had steel, guns, and disease resistance. The general answer you get is coincidence of geography, but it's a good read. Too lazy to read? Well it seems PBS is putting the concept to the radiated screen just for you:

Tonight at 9pm on 26 WETA is part I of this series.
I haven't heard from my prof, and I'm just letting the paper sit. Hope silence means an A, but if I haven't heard from him by this evening I'll solicit his response. I've just realized that I'm booked every night this week - some vacation!? Ok, tonight is tentative but still...remind me that if I had time on a regular basis I wouldn't be this busy every week.
Sun - sloth then hiking in the late afternoon / night
Mon - gym upper bod & abs, sit around by myself catching up on phone calls and then blowing my evening watching mixed martial arts "fighting"
Tues - tentative Cafe Asia with skanky friends
Wed - gym (mandatory attendance), happy hour (optional)
Thur - food with friends, walking around, drinking maybe
Fri - high-school happy hour in Bethesda, possibly my old coach at the fights in Barcroft
Sat - boxing, then making cookies for the boxing bbq/fight night that evening
A short while ago I noticed that when I felt like I had made some inroads into a different social group, that my desire to do so left. It was as though once the challenge was gone the interest died...you know, like dating. Well, after I got over thinking I was a social retard, finding it a strain to stay with normal social rules, getting used to fitting in, then deciding it wasn't worth the effort, I found that I actually like hanging out with these people and like a bunch. So coming full circle I go duh, they're just another group of weird friends.
