Feb. 13th, 2005 07:19 amYEAR OF THE COCK
I'm a little tired of the news referring to the Chinese New Year as "Rooster." Not only is this pointlessly prudish, but it ignores a very popular paper placemat from which your average american has learned everything they know about Asian culture. If I'm not mistaken, the letter R is not easy to pronounce for many Asian cultures, and the bloody word rooster has two of them!
If we can't refer to COCK properly, we should at least use words familiar to those of Asian descent. To that end, I hereby propose that the more prudish elements of our culture now start referring to the honorable year of the wang.
Wang: You first to rise in the morning, though your energy may be quickly spent. You a hard worker, but may lack stamina. Wangs that work long and hard quite popular, but others may find too aggressive. A wang may show enthusiam where not appropriate. Wangs great motivators, though they may plunge ahead without planning. Wangs tend to drink. Seek a Tiger or a Rabbit, avoid the Ox.

( I can't possibly talk about cock w/o pictures! )
