Oct. 27th, 2004 10:14 amToday's thought is I'm going to die. Unless I take matters into my own hands I won't know how or when, but today, 10 years, or 50 years from now I will die. Hundreds of years from now I will not even be remembered. All the pain, all the issues I care about, everything I know will be history that few will care about, and then only in aggregate form. Is there a god and if so what kind? You'll find out or not exist. I hope it doesn't hurt.
It occurs that the only way to extend your influence into the future is to initiate a change in societal structure, such as passing a legislative action. If you create an environmental protection that will last far into the future, that may make a difference - but how relevant is that when worms feed on your dry brain? If there is reincarnation, you may yet regret all those disposable packages. I don't foresee life getting better, so reincarnation might totally suck. Offspring can be a form of immortality, but only in genetic sequencing. Your lessons fade fast.
