Mar. 3rd, 2004 07:26 amPeople are yammering about the Mel Gib Jesus movie, and how much 'respect' they have lost for ol Mel. Hell, people laughed about John Travolta and some other actors/actresses turning to scientology. Guys, get a grip.
They're actors. They do what they're told. The difference between them and the guy that serves you a latté for $6.50 an hour is the selection process. You like or hate them based on who happened to tell them what to do in a story created by someone else. Don't ever mistake an actor's role for who they are or what they think. Hell, don't expect them to think at all.
It's sad that this country is full of people that want to be famous. Not only is such notoriety a curse, but it's usually achieved by performing on command like the average pup.

Date: 2004-03-03 05:31 am (UTC)This is so true and so pathetic. Everyone is dying for fame here. It's not enough for most people to be doing what they love, they expect to get famous for it. People want to be around fame (starfuckers are worse than those actually dying to be famous, IMO). Then we have the media who contributes to making useless people famous. What has Paris Hilton ever done to demand so much attention? I know she's an easy target, but she's the classic example of a person who is famous for nothing. I could talk about this subject all day, so I'll stop.

Date: 2004-03-03 05:40 am (UTC)People, when you are worried about actors 'losing their integrity,' just remember back to high school. Remember the people who were into Drama club? Remember how opinionated, zany, flaky, quirky, and often times insufferable they were?
The professional actors are the cream of the crop. The flakes of the flakes. The screwballs of the screwballs. They made it to the top by a number of ways; good acting, good blowjobs, good connections. But the fact is, they're still the god damned nitwits and hilarious lunatics you remember from high school.
Anyone who talks about actors' integrity is obviously forgetting the backstage temper tantrums and emotional bricolage behind The Fantasticks or The Crucible or The Glass Menagerie. I bet you never saw those high school staple plays, either. God knows I didn't. So why give a damn about these people once they're famous?
