I fully support gay marriage, but I wish we could drop this issue right now. A majority of the public hates queers and not only wants them not to marry, but to get the heck off the tv. Speaking of off the TV, what ever happend to Cheney's lesbian daughter?

This election is close, though it shouldn't be (anyone running against Bush should be a shoe-in). The dems are the queer and minority party, and the repubs with their right-wing lovers are clearly the anti-faggotry party. If we push this issue now, not only will we lose as everyone tries to please the average right-wing voting Joe / Joan, but Bush will win. I'm fighting for gay marriage because it's too late not to, but I really fear what this will mean for the election.

I don't know why we don't just vote on issues that matter, at least to me. Environment, international relations, economy, deficit spending issues, interpretation of the constitution, cabinet members, political appointees...these are areas that make me desperate for 'not-Bush.'

despite my last post, i do agree with you that the issue should be dropped. well.. not dropped. i think it should have been a non-issue from the start. i believe that george w bush is making such a big deal out of it now precisely to create division and to steer attention away from his other mis-doings. but i can't help being angry about it - listening to these complete meddling idiots blather on the radio about the goddamn sanctity of a "natural" union between a man and a woman. SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP.

NPR makes me happy and sad...happy that they present the information, happy that it's clear some people understand what's going on, and sad that so few people listen.

That's why the issue is being labled as the republican's "Weapon of Mass Distraction."

The timing of this makes me nervous too. I'm guessing the anti-fag thing is stronger in this country than a lot of people realize. People need to get off the coasts sometime.

I'm just waiting for them to repeal my marriage due to the fact we don't believe in God and have no spawn.

*sigh*

I know it's a dangerous issue to be pursuing right now (and joanarkham is right about people leaving the coasts). I'm worried, but I can't help but be happy about *something* on my agenda happening, and I have friends who are blindingly happy about being married. I feel it does "really matter," but I'm very clear that there are pressing universal issues that have more impact on everyone's lives.

So on the one hand I'm worried, and on the other I'm dizzy with happiness over it, and I'm loathe to tell people to suppress it.

I am making no secret of how very happy it makes me to turn on the news and see this one glimmer of hope. Sante Fe is doing it to, or has proposed the idea, but they are failing to garner national media attention.

Oh, I know - it's clear to me that you're pretty happy about it, divorced from the scarier issues.

I've seen some commentary about Santa Fe here and there. Of course, I'm on spring break in California, so that's a bad sample.

dubya is puching this, because the record he planned
to run on is falling apart. if the economic/job situation
is at least as uncertain as it is now (and has been for several
years, now) in november, we will have a new president in january.
some people get really fired up over this culture war bullshit...
many more care about paying thier bills and being able to
buy stuff.
