My father told me some stories that were not true, but were compelling. I suppose this is true for everyone - the urban myth existed prior to the internet which disproved it and helped it flourish at the same time.
Allegedly, and snopes doesn't have it, an eyewitness testified with great credibility in court (subject unknown, jurisdiction and details missing). The case was a lock, until the lawyer came up to the witness stand, pulled out a KNIFE (and that's where you know the story isn't true if you aren't a small child), spit on it, pointed it at the sun, and then handed it to the witness. In the story the witness would not spit on the knife and point it at the sun (proving their testimony wasn't true). I believed this story and repeated it. It's compelling as Indiana fucking Jones but not true.
I suppose like a nitwit I could thank my dad for teaching me critical thinking in my everyday life, but I don't believe that was his intention. He liked to be the center of attention and storytelling, regardless of veracity, was one of his illusions.
Are genetics more important or teaching?
What is important, actually?
