Sep. 24th, 2015 11:53 amI've been putting off a house post as I got scared and frustrated. However, I just got a call from my contractor and now that my head's full of houseness...
(mix of this call and my visit this weekend's observations)
Upstairs laundry - they moved the wall back so I can fit in (real) laundry machines. Awesome.
Upstairs floors - I guess are done? They look good. I saw he put some putty/epoxy where gaps appeared.
Doors - salvaged wood doors are in the house, he's sanded them and is stripping the last of the paint. I have the option of new door hardware, or salvaged that would match each weird door. I'm thinking of going with weird just as a fun piece of character (downside, key locks for bedrooms; upside, key locks for bedrooms). I have a million decisions to make due to weird sized doors - sounds like 8' closet doors are out. Wait...otherwise why would I get real wood doors for closets? Overkill / silly.
He apologized, here on the 24th, as it looked like a move-in on the 20th was not happening. I noted he had told me before, revisited, the end of the month - and for that he thinks they're still on target.
But the kitchen. Sounds like a 2 week delay on the selected kitchen tile. This would explain the cabinets, and...no kitchen.
Also paint - I have samples in my trunk along with poster boards and cheap brushes. I'll paint some boards and tape them in rooms this weekend.
Stain/paint - he will get clear coat samples for the brick this weekend. I won't pick hallway and living room paint before then so I can match any wall color issues.
He asked if I wanted valves for the bathroom radiant heat in the cabinets vs. panel or basement...hell yeah, I love access - makes it much easier to warm and not-overwarm the places. Neat.
He hopes to have a pre-wall-in inspection of the basement next week. I note inspections are the most common reason for delays.
The window-well is done as is a lot of the grading in the back - about 1/4 " per foot of slope. He wants to know if I want a sidewalk all the way to the back, or just pavers. Per the water conservation concept I think I'm going to go with pavers over a sidewalk.
I told him I'm not doing the exterior paint, but yes to window trim (need to pick color). He noted the porch could really use scraping so I'm open to that.
So end of the month move is still in the cards. He notes when it's a week away or so he'll let me know it's a good time to get appliances.
He noted once you pass a certain hump things really roll along. He sounds excited, and now too so am I. Ok back to work...

Date: 2015-09-25 01:33 am (UTC)Some or most of the doors are reclaimed - some of the closets and other doors are odd shapes and sizes.
