My cable bill jumped to 190 (triple play comcast - fios not available here). I tried to negotiate down and I think they put me into a 1 year contract without noting the contact. I might be about to "cut" the cord (either go net only / dsl and get a cell phone). Advice welcome.

I'm happy. I'm happy without a sense of dread (which, I think, means a plane crash is imminent). Work is going well with no danger on the horizon, I'm not looking like I'll be in dire fiscal straights anytime soon, I'm done double-booking my life with work and school obligations, my health appears on the rise and isn't horrible now, and things just keep getting better with the mate. I'm jinxing it sure, but I just don't see anything but things to enjoy now and look forward to later.

I cut the cord maybe 2 years ago, bought a Roku, a Hulu subscription, and an Amazon Prime subscription. Still spoiled for choice. I don't have access to much in the way of pop TV but then again I already wasn't watching it (except for Top Gear and at this point that's all but dead thus a non-factor).

Add $20 or so for an antenna so you can pull in local stations.

Have been cell-phone only for almost 10 years.

I'm debating various phones, plans, carriers, and what to do for internet (dsl or cable) if I go that way. How much does it cost to do all that (what you listed) without the cord?

A Roku 3 is maybe around $80 now but that's a one time cost. Annual Prime membership is $100, Hulu is $8/month so entertainment access costs are currently a bit under $17/month plus the cost of the internet connection.

If you're going to cut the cord and plan to stream you're pretty much looking at a cable provider as your ISP - most DSL services are going to be marginal at streaming content.

Thanks, ugh cable still. Those costs are very reasonable!
