Friday the 13th
Feb. 14th, 2015 02:04 pmWell I'm not actually into this holiday but I'm trying to make it a good one (with giant weekend!) for the girl. I'm still feeling about a bit with what is traditional that she expects vs. "ew," but gambled on going traditional for VD.
I hate pressure holidays, especially knowing their easily found fake roots (diamond engagement rings!?), and try not to bug others with them. My old joke was 2/15 is a chocolate holiday, but the cold reality is chocolate is usually doubled in price to drop into an ugly red box - and most sale chocolates are drugstore level crap.
I admit I'm still bitter since Lindt's outlet closed. I have found no substitute, but make do with trader joe's.
VD and sex! I'm on the verge of a new speech that you should not have sex with someone who says they're "clean." How can they say that - have the been tested for all 100 or so types of hpv, blood tested for herpes 1, 2, and I dunno...yeast? I would argue the best answer you can give is to identify tested status and risk factors. In fact that might be your best answer - "I have the following risk factors..." which shows not just (we hope) honesty, but knowledge of how complex the issues really are. I think someone who simply id's as "clean" is more likely to be ignorant - and while they could be "clean," I'd argue their ignorance was a bigger risk factor than someone who knows to monitor for a health issue.
You know though...candy hearts, the sidewalk chalk of the candy world, are still pretty cool. I guess like jelly beans, sugar skulls, and candy corn, they're good and go on sale after holidays.
