EDIT - anyone figure this crap out yet? I still can't make my f-list 50 w/o using the old S1 LJ style.

I was going to switch to the new layout, but I can't figure out how to make my f-list 50 again. I lose people with it 50 long, with 20 it would be almost pointless. Grr!

Go to the Modify Journal page (found under "Manage/Customize" on the top menu bar, FYI).

In the "Style Overrides" box, paste the following:

FRIENDS_OPT_ITEMS=>50

My default was set to 50 entries for my f-list, since if it's lower it scrolls so fast I miss stuff (this is also why I tend to cut people who post quizzes etc). When I changed to the new layout, it made my f-list only 20 entries.

Thx Andi! Actually, that's how you used to do it, but with the new styles it doesn't take those commands anymore. I did find the customization screen finally - when you change to the new style it's on the bottom as style overrides section.

EDIT - CRAP no, it won't let me do that either. I cannot find where you edit the length of the f-list in the new format, so I'm sticking with s1. The instructions send you to links over and over again from the developer section (but never to a place you can actually modify) and to the edit style section. There is never an option for f-list length, and there is no place to put 'SET OP ITEMS' or whatever. LJ is sucking right now.

I cannot find a layout tab. Perhaps some other day I'll find it. I went to customizations, made it s2, set up colors and a structure w/o borders, and could find no area where you could set the default view of 20 to 50. There were only tabs to do advanced settings which related to colors and whether you see users pics or not. I also wound up in a section labeled for advanced / programmers only, which I left.

I'm not digging tech stuff right now. Wish I had the time to fiddle with it, but I don't.

that is pretty good - but that's the page I mentioned that had the font, show user pics, and what not. It has the 3 tab heading at the top:
Customize:Colors Fonts Other

but none of the options on the 3 tabs include # of entries. Heh!

Ah ha! It turns out that the style I picked did not let me customize my number of entries. Once I changed to all defaults, the option to change the number of entries appeared.

How odd.
