So I tried ... I forced myself to leave the house, and to do so by bike. The start-up time is painful - open the laundry, unlock 2 locks, strap them to the bike, put on the helmet, put on my backpack with laptop, and juggle/thump out the door. Then going down the hill I realize my hands are freezing, and the rest of the up the hill trek leaves me winded and huffing, even though I'm only going .5 to a mile or so. My bike isn't a sport type, it's just an old cheap offroad bike (mostly). Locking it outside the java shack and swapping my helmet for hat...it was all just annoying. I think I would have taken the same amount of time to walk.

I wanted to have coffee alone in my house. I went out which is good, but I'm looking forward to the work week when there is no excuse but to have home-coffee-with-me.

This week I work, only I don't - it's a holiday week, 2 weeks later is t-day, then I have leave. I am going to boot my work computer to re-re-re-try to get a hold of my schedule.

I'm mad that I prefer the car to all other forms of transportation. Over and over I find the car wins; over metro rail which takes too long and still requires walking, over cabs which are expensive and might require waiting, over the bike which can be stolen and is a logistical nightmare plus cold or sweaty and sometimes both...

As someone who likes to ride for sport, I hate commuting or anything else with the bike. It is obnoxious to change and carry everything and too many steps. Bah.

once you are in the city, I highly recommend getting a bikeshare membership. I have taken my own bikes out maybe twice in the last two years, but I have ridden several hundred miles on bikeshare bikes.

I generally walk when I can.

Man those heavy things look painful! Maybe just as painful as the old bike I have. I guess there is no theft issue, but then there is the where is the station / walking to and from.

LAZY me.

Yeah, it's kinda like riding a tank. Totally functional and fun, but tank-y.

And man, worrying about how far the bike station is?? You are lazy!

Hills get easier with time.

I should enjoy anything that is different - what's that thing I keep saying, "You're only good at what you do?"

To be fair, you live at the top of a damn cliff.
