So only myself, the host, and one other showed up last night for a meeting everyone said they could make: de factor leader still. Well another showed up, a multi-generational (arguably) resident who turns out to work with habitat (yay!) and has not just a law degree but a LLM to boot. The other person who showed up was an attorney - my god I had no idea there were so many attorneys in the area (there are). We've discussed filing suit to stop the project.

My home is largely wired and piped, though the basement is just dirt and a trench for the new water and sewer lines. They didn't do (PEC?) but instead stuck with copper pipes - works for me. Hoping to visit the place Friday with Scott to check progress with an expert eye. So far I like where the outlets, switches, and lights are. He's put recessed lighting all along the top floor.

I feel like I'm getting more than I ordered or paid for.

Last night I longed to live there as the weather was perfect and the neighborhood kids played outside and in the street. It's funny, "I want to be their friend" but of course they're just strangers to me. It's insane how friendly they are and how they know each other compared to me here - where I'm the FREAK who says hello while all the other condo-pod-people walk by blank or buried in cell. But I'm so finicky - I don't even like my friends, so why the urge to be friends with people I don't know? Deity only knows what lack of commonality I'll actually find.

likely PVC not PEC.
PCV Poly(vinyl chloride) pipe/tubes used in plumbing and HVAC.

IS this lust for friendship a byproduct of becoming alienated from the condo and place you've been for the past twenty years?

Well the drains are pvc, but I did get my letters wrong:
http://www.houselogic.com/home-advice/plumbing/plumbing-pipe-types/#.
or
http://www.modernpi.com/blog/plumbing-service/orlando-plumbing-guide-different-types-of-pipes/

I often see what looks like a fun group and want to be a part of it, missing all the problems that come with each. Theoretical people and social structures, like governments, seem attractive alternatives from the outside. The condo place is highly self-isolating though; always has been. It doesn't seem logical that 10-20 miles away would be any different, but people who share porches might be facing a different face-time issue? In my 'hood the neighbors already all socialize so at least what I see appears different.

But what if they all hate me! *grin*

condo vs. house vs. apartment vs. duplex.
And, yes, 2-5 miles can make a difference...at least in my experiences moving around way too much.

I think [livejournal.com profile] vicar means PEX tubing vs. traditional plumbing. It is basically high-grade hoses which are purportedly sturdier than copper, resistant to pinholes from hard/acidic water, freezing, etc., in addition to being easier to install with fewer joints to leak.

How Safe is Pex Tubing?

Well I seem to have copper at no additional charge, so I'm keeping it to my slight surprise!

I sure wouldn't tell them to pull it out, but when you're able I would invest in a water softener unless your water is naturally low in minerals. We have hard water and are prone to oxidization and pinhole leaks.

I am paying a ton extra to replace the water line from the main to my house.
Because it's made of lead.
Lead. Like I can bend it with my fingernail. Lead.

ahahahah
