A street I cross every day has just been blocked with a fence to prevent us jaywalkers from having free reign. I have never seen an accident in that location, but many speed traps. Well I take that back - there is a parking garage on one side of a 4 lane highway / exit ramp convergence and sometimes when people spew from the garage to get the far left turn lane they’ve been hit, but it’s not speed related or pedestrian related. I am now walking further up and jaywalking further up, and it’s far less safe now thanks to the safety fence.

They just lowered all the speed limits in that area and have cameras.

Is anyone else sick of speed revenue zones and a nanny government? I am typically not aligned with the anti-government folks, but I admit I’m sick of the government taking way freedoms, monitoring where I walk and net-surf, recording my phone calls, telling me I can’t smoke a vapor mist in public, and otherwise micromanaging and monitoring my life in the name of protecting me from things I might do to myself. What alarms me is that there seems to be no control for this - few agree with speed limits or follow them, yet the government enforces them as some sort of tax with the thinnest veil of alleged safety (contradicted by data).

I’ve actually written comments on proposed rules, but I’m freakish about giving a shit. I’m probably not a patriot because real patriots would post their views on facebook with a picture of words.

We just held the fucking condo board meeting, and I had to spend the first 30 minutes of time running around the property begging people to sign the proxy forms because even with SASE proxy notices and postings about the meeting, we had not reached 25% required to have quorum. People give such a little shit about their own property and how its run that we can’t even staff the board - one member is overseas and wanted to stop serving (because he’s be in a war zone and off email) but he served anyway because nobody else would agree to serve a whopping 1 hour a month.

People take the time to vent outrage on facebook, daily, hourly, but do not voice their opinions in actual government forums. People talk about Bush/Obama like they matter but don’t vote in the primaries or local elections. I know I’m venting in eljay, but other than serving and encouraging actual fucking in-person service and leading by example - and I’m fucking lazy - I don’t know what else to do.

You're starting to make a lot more sense to me. I understand why you're angry. I think.

Bias - I'm more likely to write when I'm angry. But thanks!

The last time I engaged in a serious political talk with someone, their solution to the various complaints we'd discussed was to stop voting. After hearing that, I was done with the conversation. That kind of thing, repeated over and over, has kind of sapped my ability to give a shit when anyone complains about anything really. Too much ignorance and apathy, it's overwhelming.

Agreed. I kinda wish I could live in a country populated by the giveashit people, and/or the domypart state.
