Feb. 24th, 2014 08:16 amSat AM I went to 2nd chance again, and scored a 3x3 or so (maybe 30”x30”) block of buthcer’s block Today I saw a 27” ^2 one for sale marked down from $150 to a mere $100. My intent was to use it as a top for a built-in dishwasher if I don’t upgrade the kitchen...but it could also just be a ginormous cutting board too. As of now, it looks like getting it for $25 was a lot of not-suck.

turbogrrl and am 274% happier with my house yet again:
1. Nearby house in smaller size had bad upgrades, leaking skylights, but was only about $550.
2. Hipster heaven - walking around my awesome hood the influx of spoiled rich people was ragingly obvious. However, it’s also loud and busy. The fact my street is stunningly quiet is really getting to be a major issue in a good way. All the benefits of location without the downside? Is this possible?
3. Nearby 4 story house for about a mil - they didn’t notice the upstairs toilet was leaking and when we pointed it out it had already dripped on through the pantry. This was the place with the 10 burner stove with no cabinets: upgrades throughout, mostly mediocre at best, likely many not up to code. Funniest was the not-finished basement bathroom where you could walk around the unfinished walls of the shower - also, pebble-stone inlays for a powder room? Disaster pending on that one - enjoy your mopping.
4. Far away Mt. Pleasant home with original details - was as good as it looked online (but I didn’t gain much from the up close view). Scores: i) floor plan of all 3 floors in greater resolution, ii) ideas for kitchen and MB layout, and iii) perspective on how to preserve parquet floors and wood floors in areas where it was damaged or walls once were.
Visited and showed the house - George had filled 2 grills with meat next door (and I couldn’t avoid the offer of food and sadly had to decline, which I tried to do with tact as my peeps think it’s rude to turn down such offers a lot of the time). I also pulled 1 quick panel off the basement wall to find brick painted gray, so exposed brick can happen at least down there. I may do test holes to see what my main and upper floor walls look like.
