Honestly still fighting the end of the flu. Trying to balance being gym-responsible with get-the-fuck-better responsible. Not sure how I'm doing.

Today was mostly success on the re-caulk mission. Removing the caulk was stunningly easy; far easier than the old stuff I scraped off. I didn't destroy any clothes getting the new stuff on, but I wore old clothes just in case. I didn't get the new stuff on 100% perfect, but it's mostly perfect and mildew resistant for 6 years in theory so it should be fine. Next, finish grouting and seal it all.

I am trying to get stuff moving on the new home, but without access yet it's a bit of a problem. DC is full of regs, licenses, and paperwork - but they are pretty good about website information on most issues and other people pick up the torch to make information easy to find too.

I'm worried I've taken on more than I realized or the costs are higher than I thought.

EK this weekend for the first time in ages though.

I'm told that largely gutting (what is now) DCRA and getting rid of generations of (what were widely regarded as) the dirtiest building inspectors on the east coast is one of the best things Tony Williams ever did as mayor. (I know people who worked commercial construction in DC during the Barry era. Permit inspections happened on the sidewalk... an envelope went one way, the inspection sticker went the other.)

Wouldn't surprise me, though it would sadden me. I remember the Barry cronyism that followed the "DC located contractor" scam. That, however, was legal - just misdirected (the requirement that you use DC contractors sounded nice except there weren't any, so people in the know took bids, gave them to real contractors who did the work previously, made a markup for themselves and their brand new 1-person LLC, and then won the contracts...result, 10-25% increase in all costs, taxpayers paying cronies for their time)
