Smart set!

Yesterday was deadlift day in the gym, and as I worked my way into my big-for-me set (325 for 6) a bigger guy was throwing big weights around in the cage next to me like it was nothing - looked like a warmup set. He was squatting not far from what I was DLing, and it was clearly not a challenge for him. I finished my big-for-me set and set into my longer rep sets of 3x10 at 225, inter-spaced with some silly hanging ab raise thingys to keep me mostly winded. On my last set, I stopped for a moment mid-set. Last time I didn't notice at the time, but 2-3 days later my back was screaming when I tried to drive for more than 30 minutes (nothings else seems to kill my tired back like car-sitting). With that, I re-checked all my form points
[feet, check. hands, check. head-spine-back, check. butt, check. where is the bar, where is my shin, am I butt-out, check. breathe, check.]
and finished the set with as near-perfect form as I could.

Guy beside me piped up "_That_ was a smart set!" I noted he was throwing some huge weight around (rather than say thank you, a frequent faux pas of mine) and he noted he was rehabbing himself to tournament weight. It felt really good that when I caught myself possibly slipping off form, that someone who seems to know the field noticed my form or form adjustment and felt it was worthy of comment.

However, then I got home and was putting things away when I yelped like a schoolgirl. I looked down to find I had stepped on my workout-log clipboard, and cut my foot in the process.

"Smart form! Really smart form there, bud! Good foot placement!"
