Progressive doesn't suck! I called them about my "not good credit," and a very helpful woman explained to me that while those are factors they consider (see prior post) that the standard language they use doesn't cover the full story. They actually have 18 bands of credit in their categorization - I was 1 from the top, or B-1. Had I been listed in A-1, my discount would have been $17 every 6 months. Oh!

Oddly if I buy a car to get that $17 discount, while one factor goes up - then I have a new note and that is a point down on another measure (new cars get more claims).

So - yeah, again getting the full story after I get all pissy.

So in other words, it's virtually impossible for anyone to reach that top band? Awesome!

(I had several reasons for dropping Progressive, without even knowing about this. Geico has given me no problems, and still gives me the best rate by far every time I shop around.)

It's insane that Geico was double what Progressive is charging me after 20 years - but my gf just switched from Progressive to Geico to save money too.

It's almost impossible - you have to be in that spot between 2 and 10 years of a car note for the top. It's insane, yup.
