Just consider - the higher you go, the more political the position and the less time you will have to yourself...and your productivity will fall off because of "incidental" time demands.
Also--we are entering an even more volatile political period, and again, the higher you go the more vulnerable to the political winds near the top of the tree. As Jonathan was a mentor at one point, you could always meet hi for a drink and quite conversation and ask him what he thinks of the opportunity.
