Special hell

That does it - online shopping can go to hell and please stop taking me with it. I have been shopping online, perhaps too much, as it is far easier to bargain hunt from all the flailing retail corpses. However, the packaging is making me sick. Recently I got free shipping on an order from Amazon - 2 windshield wipers, 1 book, 1 swiss army knife. The book came wrapped in cardboard, inside a box (what, was it going to bend?) The knife was packed appropriately. EACH windshield wiper was put in a box that measured about 4x6x22 with packing material to boot :/ EACH.
I made an order from the corpse of L&T: 2 sets of glasses, 2 pillows. The glasses arrived packed together in their original boxes in a packing box - no packing materials (no breakage). However, EACH throw pillow arrived in an INDIVIDUAL BOX measuring about 4x6x22 PLUS PACKING MATERIAL. Packing material. For a PILLOW. To top it off, I thought they were synthetic and they are in fact down stuffed pillows. Down isn't my favorite thing because birds don't shed the stuff, but I understand it's warming power. However, pillows don't keep you warm and with down they're just unwashable and uncomfortable. So, they're evil uncomfortable material and they wasted a half acre of forest to send them to me - because you certainly wouldn't want to put 2 18" pillows in one 22" box, oh and you need packing material to prevent breakage of the pillows (unlike glassware). You also couldn't possibly pack the PILLOWS around the GLASSES as packing material? No, that wouldn't make any sense whatsoever - certainly the pillows would be smashed into tiny pieces while the glassware needs no protection whatsoever.
I have a stack of cardboard boxes of various shapes that nearly touches the ceiling. Sure I can recycle, but this reduce part of the reduce reuse recycle is being obliterated. I didn't pay for it, someone did, and in that broad sense we all do. Egads, man.
