This band, crystal castles is my new favorite band obsession. Go to their website and buy their shit. If you don't like the music, then just send them money so they will keep doing this and I can buy it. Yeah it's technically synth, but I think it's more electroclash. How I can love this type of music so much, and hate "synth pop" so much I don't understand. I also don't understand why they show up under the genre of "thrash."

Are there clubs where they play this music? I would forsake everything I know about clubs right now to go to a place that played music like this where I could dance.

Yes I’m pissed off that yet another fucking band that I like is out of Candata/Toronto. I finally have an answer to "Why do you hate America?" The answer is "Because the music sucks."

TODAY has sealed the idea that it is worth every penny to upgrade this 7 year old laptop. I spend more time waiting for things to load than I do using the damn thing. $400? $500? Sure.

That would be the indie nights -- Liberation Dance Party and such.

Really? I HATE the space for liberation - dance? Ugh, I don't know those people and the place is kinda hard to be anon in when it's living room size. Also, I've been there and never heard this kind of music?

Yeah, "indie" covers a pretty wide area, so a lot of the time you won't necessarily hear music like that -- but places like that are the only ones that I've heard Crystal Castles played. That being said, there are a lot of clubs playing electronica/rave/etc. that I've never been to because I don't care for most of that music, for all I know they could be getting some play there too.

What clubs play electronica?

Honestly, dunno anymore (as I said, don't like it, don't follow it). You'd have to look around.

I was really big into them for a while, but they came under a LOT of fire for ripping folks off, from using artwork without permission for their album cover and shirts, to downright stealing music. That's bad enough but worse is that when confronted on it, they've been complete dicks about it.

It doesn't change how good the music is, but it was really disappointing to hear about, especially how crass they were about the whole thing...insulting the artist they ripped off for their shirts and album cover, and claiming they had never even heard of the chip-tunes music scene when the person they copied the most from is a huge proponent of chip-tunes.

According to wiki they settled the suit by buying the rights. But yeah, I hate supporting assholes with my money. Fucking awesome music though - what would you call this genre?

Edit - Actually flipping through the comments below, it's not clear that they are just outright thieves at all. The picture's creator admits he gave permission then recanted? At least one track with the completely remixed track wasn't officially released? Meh.

Yeah, it was more their response that pissed me off than the act. Had they downplayed the similarities or claimed they had initial permission (they didn't have permission to use them commercially), I'd have no issue with them. But, they denied they knew who any of these people were and said they were %100 original until people started pulling out proof. It's enough to make me like the music and hate the band.

I'd call them sort of a genre mashup between electroclash and chiptunes.

7 year old laptop? I'd say you've paid your dues and can get a new one. The good thing about waiting so long is that it feels like magic when you first use the new one. So fast and shiny!

Already ordered - delivery for the 18th probably. I feel like it's a score, only $350 and it sold out shortly after I bought it. It's not top of the line, but yeah...it'll be so speedy comapred to this!
