Politics? I must be crazy, but I don't care about the conventions. I have heard the party statements - speeches don't emphasize the points. We know who the nominees are. I don't understand the excitement about the ceremony. I really don't get the fascination with ceremony, me who didn't go to 3 college graduations. There might be one exception - when I passed the bar, I was forced to go to the ceremony (no choice). My dad had just died, one of his sisters was here to be here when he went, and frankly as much as I hate ceremonies had he been alive and able I would have gone for his benefit (and pretended I was just going for me, coz if asked he would have declined for _my_ benefit). Using our mutual name to joining the bar meant something as his sister was there witnessing. That's the odd exception out. But for days the news and talk radio have been blathering about these stupid rehashing of issues we all already know, decisions made, and who looked best in their public speaking skill. YAWN. Oh next week or so with the republicans? YAWN.

Here's some actual political crap:
They criticize Obama's lack of experience. And...what was Bush W's experience in entering office?
McCain wasn't really bad until he sold out for the rest of the wacko party. I don't think he'd suck anywhere near as bad as Bush in office. While the two are different, I'm not that tripped out over this prez election. Both houses of congress are going to be dem, so ... I'm more into our local political issues for now.
Oh and that silly war thing. Speaking of oil - why is there so much talk about drilling in wildlife refuges? I actually like the idea - in like 100 years when oil is actually scarcer. So the price bumped - we still have a supply that fits our needs. Why not use up foreign oil before we whore out our own supply?

The Chevy Cobalt seems to get the same mileage as a Honda civic. I don't really need either, but when/if I sell my other place I was trying to figure out what to do - I don't need anything, don't have anything I want that really costs money, so I was thinking of buying a car because it is something I use frequently. Sure I could get a douchemobile, but I'd rather get something I enjoy that isn't wastefull or showoffy. Anyone got opinions on the Hondas fit vs. civic (fit seems to not be much better in any way, but uglier?) vs. the Chevy Cobalt which is thousands cheaper but gets about the same mileage? Or is it really stupid and should I save 10k plus higher insurance by driving my 8 year old civic which only has 69k and works 100% fine?

Money is just money. I'm disappointed because my niece has gone radio silent on me, which is her way of not delivering bad news. I bought her a laptop (while depriving myself of such because like my car, I have a perfectly functional old one) as a tool for college - instead I think she's dropped out to live out her dreams of peer acceptance and dirtbag family acceptance. The bitter side of me wants to "recall" the laptop as it is just offensive to have given her a toy that will enable her pathetic dependence on the acceptance/emails & chat of her sperm donor (bio dad dirtbag who never supported her). Honestly I won't, but the only reason why is that it would alienate her more should she ever turn around. I can't change how I feel, only how I act.

Yes my family ranges from white trash to foreign ministers. More heavily on the trash side, and the successful ones are catholic (shudder).
