Older machines use DDR, newer ones are using DDR2 or 3; though 3 is still new enough that I don't trust it... and I understand that really, there is no major difference on current platforms (for standard users who don't overclock the hell out of things) between DDR2 and DDR.
When in doubt, ask Dave. I just don't want you buying the wrong thing and I would suggest you buy sticks of 1gig mem because you have to use the sticks in pairs; so you could do 2 512s and 2 1 gig sticks.
