Who will be the first troll to rag on Carlin, calling him a hack or rip-off of Lenny Bruce? Not me. I loved the doods material. I just know every time someone dies, idiots stream to the internet to call every artist a hack to try and hurt people's feelings.

He wasn't just 7 words! He had a failed sit-com (in which he had a dog named after Miles Davis) - remember that? He was ex-military. He noted that it was arrogant as hell to ask people to "save the planet! The planet isn't going anywhere! Now, we are...maybe mankind exists because god wanted earth, plus plastic?" He showed inconsistencies of which we were aware, but perhaps hadn't put together yet. He expressed shock and outrage in a way that didn't alienate people - he could reach a diverse audience of people who might not agree with his politics, but could still find his observations entertaining. He is why there is a Penn & Teller, he is why there is was a Denis Leary. 71 was way too young, but he made one hell of an impact during that time.

Thank you for bringing something to the table.

Besides, Lenny Bruce had a totally different style of presentation.

I did too- I seem to recall him saying something to the effect of "Bite me" to two of his co-workers on the show (in-character), and the audience just *gasping* that somebody said that on network TV!

(I want to say it was on Fox, but I could be wrong...)

I think it was Fox. Because it was around the time that all those jokes were made on The Simpsons and Married with Children that were like, "What do you expect? It's Fox."

Hehehehehe, i say "bite me" all the time now. Thank you George Carlin!

I think it was fox...I wasn't sure why it didn't take off, but if it was on fox that would explain it (though they were home of the simpsons too). It wasn't a political show at all, so...no idea why it didn't make it.

So what he was in the military? Those people are worthless as I get told all the time.

Yeah, a dime a baker's dozen! I think they all join for the fantastic free health insurance for life...

You only get the medical benefits if you were in during a war so that isn't such a good way to get the benefits. ;p
