Fever broke. Maybe I wasn't sick - I was just allergic to VD.

There was just another campus shooting, this time in illinois. With that in mind, I pull up this post I made and then rethought and deleted. Note I'll be disgusted as the media dwells on it, the public blames officials, and officials run around trying to identify the next nut who might crack while stripping civil rights away from the rest of us.

Another mass shooting in USia and this quote caught me:
My brother went to war tonight with the people and government that were putting torment and strife into his life and he ended it, Gerald Thornton said. I'm OK with it.
I get it. I'm not saying it wasn't wrong, I'm not saying we shouldn't try and stop it, I'm just saying I understand. Now this is an interesting case - I think we can generally all agree that the guy was a kook, and it's terrifying that someone trying to serve the public good in such a humble way may find themselves staring down the barrel of a gun held by some bored nut - but his brother "understood." Wow. For everyone who does something horrible, there is a population out there that sympathizes with their plight and actions.

I understand this guy. I've been a piece of shit my entire life... If you feel worthless, if you realize that in reality you've always lost and will always lose, if you don't value your own growth or feel like you matter, you have nothing to look forward to except more failures, more humiliation, and more watching people succeed while you continue to fail - why not make an impression. Suicide doesn't hurt anyone except people who care about you, but thanks to technology if you're pissed off you can take a bunch of the people who hurt you with you, or if the logistics are daunting just a bunch of strangers. Just think tho I'm gonna be fuckin famous... and he was. Kid was fired from a mall job, his suicide note had several unintentional misspellings in it, but is now probably as important as he could possibly be. Horrible, but if you ignore the negative swing of his actions, in terms of sheer impact he went far beyond anyone's expectations.

I find this fascinating. Understand, I'm not threatening anyone or any population. I have worked for decades for my future, and am not about to throw anything away - I've had feelings of worthlessness and seen my life as nothing but a string of failures at times, but I'm not insane or stupid so I recognize objective reality and understand the difference between a bad day, week, month, or year vs. 5 years, 10 years, or 20. I get frustrated, but pour that energy into working out, academia, my career, and even investing for my future.

When these things happen, the populace "comes together" and agrees in unison that these actions are wrong. There are huge showings of solidarity and support. I wonder if that doesn't in part inspire more outsiders to strike out to have a similar impact, further polarizing the isolated maybe-shooters from the population.
