Oh no - I'm on the opposite page. I would not even consider hitting on anyone with a bite mark, and would assume very comfortably that they were quite taken. I also agree they are possessory in nature and used as territorial postings by teens.
Difference between lust and love? Perhaps I'm an old prude, but I don't want a piece of what everyone else already has/had. Hickeys kinda make you look used - cute if you're taken, gross if you're just a vagabond.
