(no subject)

I lied. I lied when I said my life would be different after law school.

When I got back, I was utterly slammed - the help I received keeping my cases afloat was negligible, and I'm days behind in what needs to be done. I'm chasing down discovery all over the department and it's almost late now, with no time to go through it properly IF it comes in. I'm working 10 hour days or more. Today included a 7-8 hour deposition with a jackass who would not answer a yes or no question - he'd just "state facts." Trust me, they were not trick questions. "Did person X discriminate against you on the basis of your religion?" "Well, there were these 5 other guys...and then there was the email...and in the office someone said..." "Did you understand my question?" And so on. The nice thing was catching him in a hilarious series of lies...first, not answering the question shows he's not credible (yes or no questions aren't that tough, and I did everything to make it easy on him - so we look good). Then, I went over his damages. He had clearly been prepped on his damages, and had specifics to his claims. I busted him on the idea that ulcers aren't caused by stress, rather that's out of date "common knowledge" and now they are known to be from bacterial or viral infections (usually). Then I ran through a laundry list of other things that sometimes happen to people under stress...heart palpitations, sleeplessness, lack of concentration, etc. He claimed each and every one of them - nothing he had previously claimed, but every ailment I mentioned he claimed to have. Credibility much?

Ugh. I got off work only in time to make it to the gym, do that boxy-boxy class, and do some lifting. Now I'm going to coast while watching the horrid Issac Assimov rolls in his grave movie. Not reading LJ, but...this busy sucks less than law school busy, and less than bar study busy. The gym doesn't hurt that way.

Just so you know why I'm not reading or writing. Might miss Chronos too, sad, because I have to chaperone a depo on friday.

Maybe you should add some red herring symptoms to your stress checklist, such as:

* sweaty palms
* unexplained hair growth
* painful bowel eliminations
* orange nasal mucosa
* increased stuttering
* eye twitching
* auditory hallucinations
* fungal infection of the navel

If someone was hell-bent on making points on a checklist, you could smoke them out this way.

That's terrible. I sure hope things get better for you. You always seem to be drowning in work of one sort or another. It's funny that you were able to get X to be so upfront with their lies.

I'm sorry your gym time is getting cut. Since you mention it here often, I'm going to infer that you will miss it. :-(

Er? No, I made it to the gym. It just hurt less because well...it was better than work! Gym good, still going, going much more. Might go running today, but egads it's hot out there.
