Boring stuff

First the important stuff - my mom sent me a link to a youtube clip of "MST3K preserves Morrisey!" Did I mention that I cried?

2nd - I got an A, did I mention? That thing I wasn't sure I got higher than a C? GPA currently 3.30, I believe that for at least this moment, I'm in the top 25% of the class. Did I mention that I got an A?

I'm taking my commercial paper class - more applicability and if I ever go in-house corporate counsel it looks useful. I think I like the comm paper prof.

The ethics officer is rumored to have been discovered as a fraud, and is similarly rumored to be moving on. If I have a brain cell in me I'll take that job when it's available. It's an easy barely supervisory 14, with almost no travel. The HS educated fraud who's been doing it does nothing and is never here, while the word is her two employees do all the work. From what I've seen, that is no rumor.

The Branch Chief job for ER is opening up. We are busting the hell out of the work from that place, cutting outrageous penalties, finding numerous flaws, exposing horrifically bad writing, noting major gaps of logic, and generally holding them to the fire. I would be the absolutely perfect candidate for that job, and I have no interest. The supervisory demands are large, and the staff is generally inept and dysfunctional. I could really help the Agency by doing it, but after all the dicking I've received - I just can't justify giving them a positive return.

I like this job, but honestly I should take the ethics job for less work with more money. Problem is I like what I do, and that job is mind-numbingly stupid. Did I mention that I got an A?

congrats, of course. Still, you're nearing the light at the end of the tunnel, where the grade and class position are nice, but worth little in terms of passing the BAR.

I'm taking a rare moment to enjoy my A along the way. Last time I had an early A I went on vacation...and returned to find out it was the only one I got. Bleah.

Good job on maintaining your GPA. I can only guess it's tough.

And I guess if you like money more than what you like to do, then take the other job. You might get bored after a while, though. :/

Actually, eventually the money will be the same. I just realize I could do less work overall - economically it sounds rational. I just value liking my work (or not hating it) a great deal.

Congrats. Sounds like you are really pleased by this, and well you should be, it takes work. When do you take the BAR?

July 27 I think. The prep course starts the end of May.

Everyone else I know thinks the prep courses were a good idea, so I'm glad you are planning to take one. Saying 'Good Luck' seems trite, but I hope all your hard work pays off and you pass the first time :-)

That was me, sorry.

I'm really glad you got an A, and I'm also glad that you seem to be giving yourself some credit. I think you would probably be unhappy with a job that you don't have to do anything, but the extra money and more time for school might be good.

you are so smart!

s-m-r-t!

i didn't read the comments left by others so i hope i'm not the millionth person to make that reference.

question to ask about switching jobs, i think: would you be able to do something rewarding in the slack time offered by the other job/or would you have enough $ and increased time not at work to expand your out of work activities, to make up for not really liking it?

I have enough money to not work for over a while. I wouldn't do that...not making money makes me uncomfortable, and my "buffer" is very important to me.

oh i meant, if you had a boring job where you could slack, would you be able to do stuff in that down time in the office that would make up for being bored? read a book, homework, i don't know...

Yup - at least unless they block the intraweb. That's a good point. Heck, I'm all for private offices so you can read physical books.
