Still waiting to hear from the NLRB. Still hopeful.
I talked to my old boss yesterday, the one who drove me out in the first place. She talked to me like an old friend, and revealed that she is unhappy and having troubles with the management. I listened, and took the time to mention the honest truth that I agreed with a lot of what she had done with the work and penalties. I'm going to leave, but at least for a time it might not suck as bad to be there if things don't work out. I need to keep applying for jobs but it's hard, harder when I have a good shot of having annother job.

More importantly, Scientists video a live giant squid!"

FEMA is both paying Bush's Brownie on payroll and giving out our taxpayer dollars to faith-based groups to compensate them for helping during Katrina. Question: will this include the Salvation Army, a vehemently anti-gay group? What about the Red Cross? (I say red cross as a control - they are ok so far as I know). Details from reuters

My stock experiment that was up 15-20% is now only up 1% in total, some things up 40%, many down. The one that really makes me cry is Alcoa - down 20% with a heavy investment in it (for me). I still love the stock, but wow that's a bit of a hard hit. I'm considering two possibilities since law school is preventing me accumulating money anymore: 1) just using index funds and not worrying about these stocks so much, 2) selling my insane success in caterpillar since I will have the gains offset by a loss-sale of crappy mutual funds from this year (but are there more gains to be had?), 3) ditching all stocks and paying off debt since I may well do better on a % basis to pay off that paltry 4.75% debt than to flatline or take losses on my investments. I might not gain so much, but my main success in finance is not making my money grow through investment so much as just having lumps of money from living beneath my means.

EDIT since most everyone I know won't read this so early (8am now)
People absolutely suck. Why is that that when a man with a cane got on the train at metro center, that out of 8 disabled seats filled with people who appeared perfectly fit, only I rose to let the man sit down...and I was in a non-disabled seat near the door? The hell with people, those newspaper leaving, door blocking, disabled seat hogging, and otherwise inconsiderate asshat people.

re: metro riders

One day I actually saw a woman faint and fall over, and still no-one gave her a seat. She had to sit on the floor.

Giant squids rule. They tease us by not showing us the footage.

Ironically enough, and not-so-nice, was the fact that in baiting godzilla the squid, they hooked and tore off his foot!

People do suck, chivalry is dead, and common courtesy is rare. That's why I was so shocked that nothing catastrophic (other than the exploding bus)happened on the interstate like a shooting or something.

Yes...picked up on that. It's really a tough sell when you can't just change the ethics rules, huh?

I'd love to gloat, but I'm afraid I don't really know enough about the specific facts. Still, as a reactionary leftist...facts? We don't need no stinkin facts!

If you were like me, you would tell them that they were assholes while you were giving up your seat.
