My big mouth may help me after all! I wrote a kvetching email to the guy who had tried to pull me into his Agency as a GS-14 HR Director. It was a tremendous opportunity, for HR includes staffing / classification, benefits, and ER/LR. It was unusual that their group had a desire for ER above the other skills, and an experienced staff to handle the others. I wrote the guy who offerred a reference and the initial lead, just to joke that hindsight was 20/20.
He wrote back that he didn't think they had made anyone an offer yet, and if I was sure I would apply he would mention that they had another candidate! omfg asdf sdaf 1!!!oneone I knew it was an opportunity at the time, but I was so into my current job and ease of law school that nothing else seemed worth making the leap. Now this job's negatives are up front and full force. My main reason for leaving isn't just my boss - it's the fact that the powers that be either want that or will allow that, which makes this a bad place to be comfortable. My interest in law is greatly diminshed as well.
I've also realized that one of the more common places law-geeks wind up is directing HR if they're not just counsel. HR Director - that makes me very marketable across many agencies and even in the private sector. The EEO, the law degree, the experience here, hell even the MA in I/O psych (OD) works into that arena.
OMFG! Needless to say I responded to his email with a big affirmative.
