I think my ass just got saved - a friend sent me a good outline for my crim class. I don't have many friends in law school, but the couple I have save my butt. I used to wonder how this group of conservative kids did so well over me, until I realized a) they worked on "The Hill" and were allowed to do schoolwork on the clock, b) they networked and had comprehensive outlines when they started the classes. This left them with say...50% of the workload I was stuck with.

Unfair? Social networking skills are very important in the workplace. If someone is a subject matter expert that is dandy, but if you can't score clients then you're worthless. Colin was noting that intelligence isn't just knowing things, it's being able to use that knowledge and on a good day communicate it to others.

Knowledge and intelligence are many things...

A good project manager needs to know enough about how each of his/her team members works to anticipate their needs and coordinate their efforts effectively. A good literary agent may not write well, but can encourage a writer, convince and editor, select the publisher, and work with the publishing house to develop a good advertising strategy.

All that said - teams work better than any individual, if the members are coordinated and work together. Using you social network and social skills is on the order of forming a team and using each other's strengths to the gestalt advantage.

I've heard of legal teams and public defenders...I'd go with the team.
