Duck and cover

I anyone else noticing the 50s here? Sure radiation and chemical nerve agents are in the air - no worry, just duct tape the window, duck, & cover. Oh, and put those weird people in internment camps.

I used to say that as a child I never would have believed if you had told me the Soviet empire fell, the berlin wall came down, or that China would try free-market a little. Europe made moves to unite, wow. For a while the world looked like it might be getting better.

Now I can't believe the US is throwing civil rights away with both fists, mowing national parks, refusing to set environmental standards and relaxing the ones that exist, promoting insane non-scientifically based policies regarding anything to do with sex (let's lump abortion and abstinence in together), pushing for war with a country that asks not to fight, pissing off another country enough to make them brag that they can hit us with missles, alienating the world with their steam-roller of foreign policy...

The world is getting better, but the US is going to poop.

It's a shame I'm just becoming so numb to it all. The threat of terrorism, the rhetoric, the caca... I don't know anyone stockpiling supplies here, and I'm on the east coast, supposedly a prime target area. Apparently, I'm not the only one not buying it.

for better or worse, i tend to be on the same wavelength as you are; i'm not freaking out and stockpiling supplies; i'm trying not to let the ridiculously dumb things our government (particularly our oh so intelligent president) is saying/doing affect my life; but i am frustrated and angry about it, and hope that when the next election rolls around the american public will see "the light" and vote to make some changes

In defense of my reputation I should point out that I was halfway through my second stiff highball when I wrote that. Is there anything so responsible as drinking when you are doing you grad school apps?
