I was wrong

Last time I perused random stations on the internet, goth was still goth and industrial was still industrial. Well, Limbic Frequencies went down when I was studying last night (a mighty fuck-you to everyone who had fun last night) and I wound up typing in random words to find new station. My big observation, most of the elec etc. stations had EBM as a mainstay. So, I was wrong, people like Tony and Kangal were right - that is the music people are listening to.

Doesn't mean I'm going to - think I'm old enough to just seek out what I enjoy and not care if anyone else really likes it. I mean, Bush is popular - doesn't mean I have to jump on board. Perhaps it's just time to step aside and let the next generation take over. I'll be groovin in Zanzibar.

You know, a few years ago when Tony was living at our house, I said (flippantly, and not really truthfully) that I didn't believe any music had been made since 1994. He said "Well, then you're dead to me."

you're dead to me

It's only taken you this long to figure this out?

He said "Well, then you're dead to me."

*rolls eyes at Tony, too*

Actually, yeah. I stopped going to the clubs that played the synthpop in droves, and found others that play music I like. I tend to stick with things I like, so no...I hadn't realized.

and...he was joking? Does he actually like the stuff, or is he just trying to be part of the 'next big thing?' I mean popularity is a curse as it is - Linkiln Park and Britney Spears are popular. Shouldn't he be preaching about white rappers like eminem if he wants to ride the wave? It would fit the big pants motiff...

i am even less interested in exploring new music than you, apparently, i don't even bother listening to stuff online. i listen to my cds, and thats it. so far as old skool goth goes, while i like everything i've heard, i hardly own any. its hard to find and often badly recorded.

the ebm shit is easy to dance to and happy. never really suited my mindset.

If you don't think any music has been made since '94 you're just not looking. Which finding new, good, music is one off the best uses of the internet (behind porn of course).

Course as I'm typing this I'm listening to The Clash, Sandinista! via a turntable I've run through my G5. Fear me, I am the most technologicaly advanced luddite ever!

I find a lot of new music to listen to, heavily electronic, but I also discover that a lot of what I hear that is new to me isn't necessarily new.

You're right though, and I know you preach this point. With a little looking around you can find all sorts of talented and interesting acts that are new. It's not reasonable to expect to be spoon fed - although you are out there spoon feeding us when you spin. You and Vlad are probably some of my favorite djs for having a wide selection of both new and old stuff to play, from many genres. Sorry - I'll get out of your ass now.

Yeah, I'm basically just not looking. And also, I was mostly joking. I'm just trying to cheerfully except my inevitable slide into old age an obscurity, I guess.
