Blowing off steam:
I went to a friend's wedding yesterday, which is a thing as I hate hate hate ceremonies and weddings in particular. However, she and her friends took great pains to make it a painless wedding. It was small, in the home, casual dress, gifts specifically forbidden, food included labels - with vegan and gluten free options, and their lifetime friend got ordained so she could officiate. With a diverse group of freaks and friends, and a mixed race mixing of families, it was a fantastic personalized event where everyone could be comfortable.
Until the father of the groom ruined it.
They did rehearsal, so this was no accident - it was plotted, planned, and executed. That fucking fuck. So the couple took a special moment for "those who could not be here," and his dad choked up - son and wife console him choked up. Then he started shitting on everyone -
* taking off in a lecture about how marriage is by and for the glory of god
* and carrying on for minutes including scripture quotes
* then reading actual scripture, as he flipped through pages and pages of notes
* then reading what he alleged were exerts from a letter from jesus about marriage
I was fucking ready to be part of the goon squad that dragged him out for ruining the non-denominational ceremony the BRIDE and GROOM fucking put in place. Her family is azn and there was 4 generations of them there - to be borderline racist here, they were not devoid of cultural norms themselves, but they appeased the wishes of their family with their daughter's requests. Not so, the US biblical fucknut.
What made it worse? It was sincere.
The bride and groom consulted briefly, basically trying to decide whether stop him or not. They let him prattle on, and the old fuck cried a little when he ran out of his plotted sabotage notes. It was worse because he wasn't just an asshole, just a dick. He really felt this way, but in his real feelings was a complete lack of respect or feeling for his family or the family they have chosen.
Xtians continue to wage war on others, gripping away the freedoms of anyone who doesn't follow their fucking cult. Even their families are appropriate targets.
Everyone took it on the chin, and there's a chance I was the most annoyed of anyone there. I tried not to show it, even in my clamped jaw.
