Jun. 9th, 2015 06:00 pmToday was bordering on exciting! However, I'm stupid busy so here is a list of stuff that matters to me:
1. Visited the house, saw the top is mostly walled, bathrooms have appropriate wally material for bathrooms, bricks are being cut in the basement to make requisite egress windows and door, supports are removed from where the stairs were and, as ordered by the city, joists are sistered and added to run the entire span (boo, would now be a royal pain to restore the stairs).
2. Laundry. Ugh. Space is only 30x30, and the girl pointed out this can be an issue when shopping for machines. I checked online and Lowes notes clearance f/b should be 6", and I also found most machines are 31-33" depth. However, Jordan has noted that the type of connector he used in back, which does h/c water and the vent, fits into the wall and buys us a few inches. He is amenable to moving the door and even wall if we have to, but had me send him some likely washer/dryer candidates so he can check whether they'll fit the existing space. Another option is using the cheapy top-loading stacked washer dryer like you see in apts, but as of now while it may be a pain or it may be fine, it's being checked and addressed.
3. Bathrooms! I'm picking out tile, fixtures, and looking over samples of stuff Jordan did and thinking...yeah that. Scott's helping me review other ideas, but as I'm looking at classic B&W&gray it should be simple shopping. Jordan's wife is helping on design there which is awesome. Jordan also asked me to revisit a tub in the master bath...and I think it's probably gone to be replaced with a standing shower only. I have a tub in the main bathroom, he can use the thing in the basement anyway, and I haven't bathed in literally years (yes that's how I said it). Jordan also suggested considering things like dual shower heads...oh this type of decision making is fun.
4. Wall radiator - the thing arrived, so I scored by getting it for <$200 while now it appears for more than double that.
5. Floors - he thinks they'll be sanded and done by next week, so he's going to make some test patches for me to review to make my final floor color decision. I'm really just thinking standard honey, but we'll see.
6. Colors - revisiting colors for rooms, but pretty set on white trim. Not sure when they'll stain the bricks but I know it'll stink when it does.
All that and a sense of dread:
When I'm ready to get appliances, I'll have to get appliances. I'm scared of any and everything that can go wrong, and I think I should get security in place before appliances go in.
When the work is done enough for me to move in, I'll have to move in. Not only is moving a bear, but then I'll be living with construction noise (or not, I insulated the fuck out of the place). I'm not looking forward to setting up security and using it all the time.
When I move out, I'll have to make decisions about what to do with my old condo. I'm renting it, but do I renovate and if so how much? Should I take it on the chin and paint the place myself? I'll at least get one bid as the water damage that was never repaired will need repair.
Then I have to rent the place out.
Then someday I'll be paying my contractor and renting out the basement.
I might short-term rent a bedroom, sounds like not.
It's just so, so many things going on.
Then it'll be doggie time. Dog-dog-dog I get a dog (squishy-face)
