Hit home depot to find, shockingly, they had no snow removal gear - but I did nail a normal "Husky" shovel off clearance for $11. Also spent a fortune on 5 re-keyable lock & deadbolt sets for the house locks, matching them by number for key compatibility.
Finally was confident I could get to my house without too much ass-pain and did so. I wanted to make sure my walk was clear both because I think that's polite and because they might fine if you don't. Turns out the street was fine and there was plenty of parking. Also turns out either the snow melted from my walk or someone just finished off my part of the sidewalk while doing theirs.
Also the snow sidetracked plans with the gf for VD n'all.
Met my neighbor on the other side under the perfect possible conditions - I thought I saw him come out and go to his car, and I was unloading my trunk when he started back to the house so I introduced myself. Of course now I completely forgot his name right on delivery, something Latino and normal, but he was really nice and talkative. While talking to him a bunch of the "kids" (16? 20?) came out from the neighbor I know's place (George - that's whore-heh to you gringos) and then George came out and we all talked briefly.
George offered me a snow shovel and not only wouldn't take no for an answer, but started shoveling my stairs while I talked to door #2. I talked him into letting me finish! While this was going on I met the other guy's gf.
So I'm unloading things from the car and the guy asks if he can borrow my shovel. His gf is in the van and they can't get out, while he thinks the more shovel-like-shovel will help him with the ice. Nothing like meeting someone for the first time when they need a favor! I noticed a piece of bumper was hanging and pointed it out, suggesting it get tied up as it won't do well over potholes and snow. He mentioned that there is the restaurant, really good yeah...maybe had too much to drink...HOWEVER he opted for removing the thing and together we pulled it off the last bolt to be addressed some other time. We also got him, the gf, and van out of the parking space.
I have to figure out what to do with the other people's mail, which now includes tax forms, or just get my lazy ass to the post office. Also, when this snow is done it's time to get all dc-licensed.
I inspected the house and may have found the pressure is low in the boiler - that might be bad, could it be leaking? There was no evidence of any leaks in the ceiling/roof.
