Little things
Dec. 1st, 2013 09:36 amCan't fb this one - our neighborhood cop noticed, and cried to our facebook community "BRAVO," about the "charlie brown xmas tree; someone else chimed in they had noticed it was done every year since at least 2010.
I was on the board, have been since 1995 or 6 or so; however I always ignored landscaping as I know nothing about it (making my claim for latino cred racism even more amusing to me). I think because of my lack of involvement, the 2 people who were doing the landscaping put a "flacid evergreen" in the courtyard outside my window. I thought it was the ugliest thing I had ever seen - a sparse needled tree, with few branches, that leans from the top to the ground. It replaced a giant crabapple tree that filled the yard - this made it look barren and sad. I whined, and it was moved to just outside my window (nice one), with a red japanese maple taking it's place. I think that made the place look a lot better. Curiously, the "flaccid evergreen" has a lot of fans.
One year it occurred to me this was the charlie brown of trees, and I put a solitary red ball on the tree at the "top" where it brushed the ground. The maintenance man removed it a couple of times, but then I explained it was on purpose - I got a box of solitary red balls so any time one vanishes it can be quickly replaced. I typically get to it the day after t-day.
This is like my wet dream though - I'm mostly anonymous doing this, but like many things I do I sort of hope for and imagine an audience appreciating what I do (omg like eljay). Thanks to the community site, in this case I found that yes, that's exactly what was happening and I even got to see it. It's like sneaking into your own funeral.
