Jul. 29th, 2013 03:50 pmI was right: after multiple messages to the intern, I finally just walked downstairs. He was, at 3:30, typing the outline he had hand-written. I explained that being the insecure type, I did the entire motion over the weekend because I cannot typically write a motion of this type in less than 8 hours, and still need to assemble exhibits (we have no paralegals - I make copies too, tab pdf files, etc.) I just let him know it was already in draft form and would email him a copy. I told him I was going to let him do it, and if I liked his better just not bring mine up.
He didn't seem mad or relieved in any way. I don't know that he realizes the gravity of what I said, or I simply overestimated whether he might ever want to parlay this into a job here or reference from here. Maybe this is just a checkbox “did internship” and he’ll never call or apply. He better not, and I’ll tell him if he asks.
But yeah - if I had relied on him I’d be in a pile of poo, and frankly I would have been a fool.
