More bad news:
I just checked in after hearing from another resident (who was given my number, thinking it was management). I have visited several apts in the building and the water is:
1. In x, damaging the living room wall and ceiling (the fluffy cat is fine and the owner is surprisingly calm)
2. In y, the unit for sale, it is worse. The water has now collected on the floor (an inch or so from the wall) and may have damaged the floor, plus the wall is looking poorly over a larger section than before. I tried to towel up what was there, but the water is still coming (slowly).
3. In z water is leaking into the kitchen (which is on the other side of the wall of the problem in xx's living room). They are good natured about it but lost vacation time, may work at home tomorrow, and have damage to their upgraded kicthen - it may affect their cabinets etc.
4. xy can hear water in their unit, and there is some evidence of water behind their upgraded kitchen cabinets and wall. They don't have a problem now but are watching carefully.
5. The owner of xz is not at home AND he's fixed the door. I think this means the key at the office is now out of date. We can only hope that he kept with his commitment to not run the A/C.
Unrelated - I swear everyone in that building works out. I've talked to a host of folks in gym gear today. It turned out one of the people with the problem is someone who lost an ipod shuffle in the parking lot, and met me because I found it and posted notes around the property.
I left a message for the owner of y, because while it is bad news, it seemed important.
If anyone cares, besides this I've also been stuck with office work yesterday and today. I get to whine to someone, right?
Phil, when you get back you may have your hands full - I'm happy to discuss BUT I'll be leaving for lovely nowhweresville Nebraska on Tuesday morning. Email might be the best way to reach me for a bit.
Thank you, and I expect my overtime rate for my efforts this weekend. That's 1.5 times nothing! Not a penny less!
