Jul. 25th, 2012 06:54 amEven here in eljay I don't write about work much. I really want to rattle on about how this or that case is going, but on the highly unlikely chance of someone cross referencing to my name, looking up a case, and figuring out information not otherwise known...
I guess my need has diminished. I'm more secure (generally) in my job, so the need to seek affirmation of the up and down is not like it used to be (not gone mind you - I'd love to detail about each and every case cover to cover if I had an interested audience).
I'm in a meh hotel - a Holiday Inn express - because a convention of Union Letter Carriers folks are in town. They're the type to run around in brand new patch-covered leather jackets etc. They're very identity oriented and patriotic, and I kind of like them and their pony-tails in a way...in the other way I look at them as misguided or possibly selfish as despite being replaced by technology, they continue to fight for pay and rights that don't seem relevant or applicable. I want to compare them to auto-worker-unions, but around that line I understand I have picked up some rhetoric (and related opinions) for which I lack adequate information to make educated statements.
My room has a giant hot tub in it which is great. I haven't put any water in it, but it's a great place to stach clothes and luggage with the hope it's less likely to have bedbugs than any carpted area. I am not interested in hot tubs generally, far less when I don't know what stew is swimming in the crevices of the public device. However, when I went running, got lost when the road on google pedometer didn't have a sidewalk and more than doubled my inteded jog, the dry tub was a great way to dry out my sweaty gear.
This has also been a healthier than average trip. Not-even-beer, a focus on veggies, and a lot of walking has made this a less fat than average work trip.
Last time I was here I was in a luxury hotel, went to 3-4 nightclubs, and had recreation time. This time I've been all business, and I love this arty city but don't care about going out. My 100% focus has been the case (so call me fear motivated) even though my last case had higher stakes. It wasn't long ago, but I drink a lot less (on average) now - I sort of fell off the wagon there. I'm also ... not as club hungry. Why?
I could go out totnight as after winning some battles my trip has been shortened by 2 days. However, I'm alone and no good at meeting strangers, and all I've thought about is how to get a jump up on my workload. We are still down 40% of our litigation staff so I'm kind of freaked out as all I can see is more work than time. My coffee and beer diet has been exclusively the former.
Surprisingly cold turkey on my D3 playing hasn't been a big deal. Some addict I turn out to be.
