My boss acts as a buffer for us, even those he is not particularly found of (who have attacked him in the recent past), against higher level management. Today I was privy to more significant problems in a parallel branch, who is not held to the same standard he and we are. The difficulty I'm having is seeing how worn down he is - I can't do what I want to do, what I habitually do, which is to affirm and kvetch myself. Sure it's fucked up, but the dude is so tired of it I believe the better thing for me to do is to help him stay out of the spiral of depression which leads to unemployment or laying out your boss in the parking lot (which on occasional has adverse employment ramifications). Me - trying to cheer someone up.
Now I'm sad. Fedex tracking indicates my shipment of Godiva was delivered at my door at 6:13 pm. I have checked all doors in the building, front and back, and even the mgt office. No box of Godiva. Me - trying to cheer someone up when I have no Godiva gold-wrapped artificial ingredient chocolate.
