Ugh. All I can do and all I can think about is work so here is a craptacular weekend post.
I got really stressed when 2 of my cases were in discovery with logistical and internally political challenges with each - and I was pulled into a work group on donning and doffing again. I've worked a longer work week than in ages, maybe 50 hours each week? I miss the days that felt like nothing before I got paid to tap my brain for money.

Thing is, we're setting up this new computer system where all documents, in theory, are scanned and stored in the system. All deadlines are in the system. You are reviewed in the system.
Advantage - could work from anywhere.
Downside - it's based on archaic commands (you have to search with wildcard operators!?), poor user interface, slow process time, and there are no user adjustable features. They make up case #s for our cases that already have 2 case numbers or more each - and now you have to see how they match up to these. It takes ages to physically scan each document and then upload it to the system. Best of all...there is no problem identified in which this is a solution other than management wants to watch what we do and make report generation on due dates automated by clerical staff. I've never missed a deadline, but now if I don't have activity on a case I will get up to 2 email messages a week asking me for status updates on cases that don't move...

Why? Oh that's easy - the boss-boss wants to get into the SES ranks. To do so, you need to be able to articulate the ECQ factors which are basically the same as KSAs. In short, 1) identify a problem, 2) institute a solution, and 3) produce measurable success in the results.
Problem? There already is a database system in place. To identify the problem, he claimed there was no way to track work in the system. To make that claim, he simply stopped using the database. Problem solved created!
Oddly, there was actually a problem - one of our branches was in shambles and the database was not being maintained and neither were emails requesting help. We have lost about half our staff or more, so things are falling through the cracks. The problem is morale and poor employee skill levels - he's driven morale into the toilet where even more most chipper and loyal employees are openly griping.

Really, it's probably a maximum of 10 extra hours of work a week, possibly as little as 1 in some weeks, once the initial setup is done. It's just so incredibly stupid it pains me to even look at it.

So I'm back to weighing the benefits I take for granted vs. the gaping hole my ass feels like with all this nonsense going on. Oh, and all my questions about the system are turned back on me to "creatively comply with the requirements of me and the system."
I liked this guy a short time ago, recommended him, and now my desired method of complying with the system is to get that stupid fuck in the ring without a ref.
