Wow, an email thread about Johnny Rotten reporting to duty at Ramshead live is making me miss real music videos. Of course, by real I mean ones in which a mockery is made of idiots (in charge) by playing samples of their lunacy.
Case in point: Reagan

I still refuse to refer to Washington National Airport as "Reagan."
My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes.
No matter how the right paints it, a moron and a backstabbing McCarthism relic who tripled the federal deficit during his term is not a hero.

I finished my hearing today and it couldn't have gone much better than it did. Everyone is impressed with me - in how prepared I was, how hard I worked, how organized I was, and the fact that I predicted virtually every line of questioning that came from the Union. I'm not drawing my sense of self from the event, yet I'm aware how this continues to help me politically. The big players in this case are in an office which I had to smother in setting my nationwide case. Frankly people overestimate my abilities because my peers range from gruff and demanding to disorganized and reclusive socially. When I do simple things like debrief the witnesses after a hearing they think I'm awesome, but the reality is I just don't suck much.

I think we're going out for drinks.

DAMN! I should read the things I write. I fell out for a while, and then when the guys decided they didn't want a post-hearing drink or dinner, I settled in to tv-land. I got bored (or filled with guilt for doing nothing) so I decided it might be a good time to go shopping. I hunted online for where the stores were and headed out.

I should mention I'm in a bright red rental car that I keep calling the fire engine.

I went downtown and it was a quaint kansas college town filled with converted industrial buildings made into art stores, coffee shoppes, bars...and then I realized I had been there before. I had gone there with someone else the last time I was doing hearings here, had incredible beer and food - loved the place so much I wrote about it. Unfortunately, I forgot it about it until I saw it again. Grr.

Not that I really had company to go out with. I could have sat in a coffee shoppe and written or read, feeling like I was somehow connected to the strangers around me when in truth I was just alone. There is no travel that is enjoyable alone.
