I am on one more more conservative mailing and call lists. I don't know if it is because I send in sweepstakes entries, talk to telemarketers, or if someone put me on a list as a joke - but I regularly get mail and phone calls/recordings from right wing sources. Today's call was on behalf of Steve Forbes, and after a quick rant about stopping the mob bosses in congress (Pelossi). I was told of a horrible bill in congress which will force cops and fire-fighters to join unions. I was asked if I wanted to hear a recorded message from Mr. Forbes, "Of course!" I answered.
I always keep telemarketers on the phone as long as I can without giving up personal information so that while they're trying to rip me off some doddering old fool is not being harassed and this scam artist is one step closer to giving up robbing the poor and getting a real job.
The recording gave me a very one-sided lecture about how the mob-union-bosses bought congress (Pelosi) and the far left was trying to "ram this bill down the throat of the American people." There was a lot of danger, for if the cops were forced to unionize then they might strike, which could lead to protests, no service, and violence! If the cops are engaged in violence themselves, who is left to protect me? If firefighters are picketing firehouses, who puts out the fire?
This would be a pickle. Of course, to believe this and the other things they tried to scare me with, I'd have to fear the police or think that somehow union organization would turn cops and firemen into criminal anarchists roaming through my community stealing my tv and raping soft young girls. Really? Violence from police if they're in a union? Bankrupt civil servants or outrageous taxes due to demands...FROM THE POLICE? Wait, do I trust them unless they join...the other side?
Despite the fact the "ram it down" rhetoric only resulted in death threats by reclusive ne'er do wells, the right is still preaching this stuff. I suppose if you scare enough people they will turn to you, with checks in hand, to defeat your manufactured enemy.
This...this is why I am happy to say I'm a democrat. Sure I have conservative leanings, no I don't agree with all they do, but I feel far better supporting someone who is trying to do good, and helping fight the liars on the right, than doing nothing but declaring I'm above everyone so I won't support anyone.
I'm a democrat and give them money, but they don't call my home with misinformation.
They, those lefties, don't lie or misquote the truth.
They don't try to scare me into donating money.
They don't play recordings which pretend to be surveys, but have questions which are really statements full of facts that can be easily disproven.
They didn't make up news networks which, while their supporters call them the only source of truth, have been caught not in mistakes, but lie after lie after lie.
The left doesn't call me and try to scare me and offer themselves as safety.
I'll take the left, but keep those right-wing phone calls coming. I'll watch FOX and Beck, I'll ask for your flyers, take your calls, and read your mail. I'll keep taking all your information and checking it against reality, and until the two parallel, I'll keep wasting your time and money.
