Feb. 16th, 2010 08:41 pmBefore anything else, I'm going to post.
First, walking up to the in-the-snow farmer's market, we passed a section of sidewalk that instead of just being shoveled - was shoveled into a zig-zag pattern. I totally followed it for being full of win, and then noticed...a bar. A snow bar. During the blizzard, this house of drunks or loons made a bar out of snow and it was still covered with beer cans. I walked up to it to see there was a keg-sized space behind the bar as well. Lots of win.
So it wasn't Jamaica, but Colonial Williamsburg was awesome. We ate too much all the time, but the crowds were low and the community was wonderful. I didn't realize that so many of those people lived there - or that so many genuinely were practicing crafts they apprenticed for. My god...they were more hard core than ren-fest. Every place we stopped the people were full of accurate history, amazing facts...you should have heard the long spiel I got when I noted leopard print in the tailor's shop! The man put down his stitching and went through not only why that pattern was accurate, but where it was recorded and how, likely trends, other animal prints - and the naming of giraffes if only for good measure. It was a lot of fun listening to people teach who were so involved in what they discussed. Never mind the blacksmiths, gun talkery, metal hitters, spooky-looking cooper, book binders and pressmen, wow. That was the last 3 days.
I hear there is horrible news and I haven't seen a computer in 2 days. I know that I was called AGAIN during vacation for a meeting today which I did not respond to. I know I'm returning to huge amounts of work on 3 cases currently scheduled with who knows what more will pop up. I'm screwed in short, but I've booked the Jamaica trip again for just after the known ... stuff. So I'll catch up with events slowly.
