1. Central voice mail systems that ring 4 times before picking up - why? It's a computer, didn't anyone think to turn off the auto-ring-4-times function when there is virtually no reason for a delay?
2. Faxes set to auto-ring 4 times before picking up - why? Why any delay at all? Why has nobody ever reset this easily accessed menu option?
3. Auto-messages that say "I'm in the office but away from my desk" that are never reset...I know you weren't in at 4am when I called, make a less stupid message.
4. Slow phone menus that have no option to speed up. Sub-peeve - my phone mail, which is set on "quick prompts" yet I must disagree with your definition of quick prompts that take 20 seconds to hear
5. Poor menu/tab options defaults. The cursor should start in the place I'm supposed to type; the # or 1 key should start the most commonly used options. For reference, my voice mail most use options are often 3 or 4, and are inconsistent across menus; "administrative options" (rarely used of course, just used for set-up) are almost always #1
6. Messages that do not delete until the entire thing is played back in full. Who programmed this thing?
7. To enter mailbox, requiring a full 10 digit phone number to access. What, 9.9 million options in this one building were not enough for mailboxes?
8. Office 2007 unassailable option - when making "new file" it makes you choose between a "work document" and "new blog post." faq MS dictators for embedding and making unskippable pointless options leftover from when you were trying to make ie non-optional before losing your antitrust suits
9. IE and all MS office products - faq for making the entire system lock up / non-responsive while it waits for: web pages, network links, or anything else...my keystrokes should be a higher priority that "waiting for web site to download file" but it's not...no I'm stick and the only option is to "end now" which, due to your interlinked programs, often loses data from other screens or even other programs.
Edit - one more thing that is not computer related: the coworker who smells like my balls. No, seriously. It's almost worse than if he smelled bad, but every so often he seems to have skipped a shower. He doesn't reek, it's not homeless or sex funk, no...it's more subtle. That disgusting yet familiar smell - like a hamper. Like I got up, didn't shower, sat in front of the computer all day sick under blankets, then jammed my hand down my pants and held my sack for an hour...the way my hand would smell? That's the smell he's wafting across the cube - the clean shirt and tie do not erase the smell of my balls. Why? Why do you smell like my stale sweaty sack?
