Jul. 25th, 2009 06:23 amI think another reason I'm not into facebook is that I'm sick of pictures. "How can this be? Doesn't everyone love pictures" you ask - well I do appreciate pictures from old-school and a few good new ones that I didn't take myself. The problem I have is that so many look fake:
They usually look posed
I know the people in them, and they're not the people portrayed in the pictures
I know about the event, and the event is not reflective of the poster's life and the picture of it is not reflective of how the event actually went
The closeness portrayed - not real
There is almost an inverse relationship between the portrayal and the real lives of those portrayed (see happy)
I grew sick of posed pictures. I'm sick of fake smiles.
Heck I'm sick of seeing people at events, in clubs, arguably doing stuff - but texting someone else at the same time for extended periods of time. I'm not a mind-reader, but my take is "Stop talking about how much fun you're having, stop bragging about where you are / what you're doing / who you're doing, and DO IT." If you're bitching about how it sucks, leave or DO SOMETHING YOU LIKE, thereby creating the fun you're not having."
(telling people where you are to join you, or linking to directions is normal and healthy - but it doesn't take an hour, and I'm speaking of the extended texters)
I like to record memories, but not make them artificially. I want to make by doing the things I'd want pictures of, and while pictures would be nice, they are a far cry from having a good time.
I've seen your pictures, I'm not jealous, and I don't believe them.
To end on a positive note:
GO OUT THERE, have some fun, leave the camera behind so you focus on what you're doing the whole time (someone else or 8 will bring their cam/cell-cam anyway), and enjoy what you're doing while doing it! Or make what you do more fun, or move on if it isn't fun, "just do it." If it was really fun or something you want to share, you'll be able to write about it later, hang out with those people and discuss it in person (hint - this may lead to MORE FUN HAD!), and you can also do IT again! Living life, not recording it...
