Grog. Went to Busch Gardens yesterday. It's worth speeding past Kings Dominion - the park is really nice, the quality of the people was yarns above the ghetto/trailer parks of KD, and the fact they actually had educational programs including wildlife conservation made it that much better.

To my shock I found myself terrified of a roller coaster. When we parked, we were by a purple roller coaster. We just had to ride that first, well, because it was purple. That was Apollo's chariot, and I got on eagerly. However, when sitting on the top of that first big hill as we started to plunge straight down, I thought I was going to die - could not hold on to anything tight enough to the degree I think I was trying to grip the seat with my sphincter. After the drop I was ok but I was a little freaked by the fear. So, the rest of the day I kept hopping on coasters but I was facing more quivers waiting to ride. We did the Wolf but that was not scary, but the scary pause-on-top Griffon was interesting. We went on that one 2-3 times, first in the first car, then in the middle to save time. That shit was terrifying but I never got that first fear feeling like I did on the first purple ride. Weird. However, after finding fear I just wanted to keep beating it down and shouting fuckyou back at it. At the end of the day we took a final round at the purple Apollo, but I found no fear on it by the end of the day.

The oddest thing on the Apollo ride was that some bigger people had to get off of it. Your seat was but-shaped, and some people either didn't fit in the butt-shape or when in it couldn't lower the brace enough to be safe. When we rode, a girl was with her dad - then dad couldn't ride with her anymore because he was too big to be on the ride. Janna and I talked to her so she wouldn't be "alone" and at the end told Dad she was brave. We saw a few more people booted who didn't really appear that fat (for USians). There was no warning at the front gate or anything. I guess there was the possibility that for some people who were sliding out of shape that this would be the wake-up call that set them off - but I really just found it odd.

The other surprise was that the 4-d Metalocalpse-like Kurse of Darkastle was shockingly good. We waited longer in that line than any other, but even with the very cheap 3-d glasses on the effects were really good. Janna nearly slapped me for trying to pet all the snakes and things "thrown at us." Neat!

So a Sunny Wed in the middle of the summer was a perfect park day. It wasn't too hot, the crowds were reasonable, and we never waited more than 30 minutes for a ride (usually much less).

I have ranted about this, and it turns out Something Positive did a spin on it as well. For those of you who care about the weird and how cool amusement parks USED to be before everything was mass manufactured with more insurance regulations, lawyers, and marketing deals in mind than fun...

An amazing thorough study of the cave
(which I swore was called the spee-lunkerer's cave but was actually just named 'the cave')

Date: Friday, this one (7/10)
When: 7pm start time (approx)
What: Sit around my house watching BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA for no particular reason except to geek out old-school.

Yes, seriously, that's kind of it. I mean I love the movie and want to watch it, and I bought the "director's cut" off ebay. It doesn't really seem to have much special stuff, but...well it's big trouble in little china.

I will have minor snacky stuff and I always have lots of booze. So if it morphs into a party that would be neat, but not necessary. I know there are probably clubby nights, so this is late enough to get here but early enough to get out for clubs when the movie is over.

Who: Meh, whomever, don't be a yutz. Very open door on this, yup.

WARNINGS:

1. I just bought a little bit of chocolate, say about 10 lbs. I may make some available for guests.
2. I will not just show the movie, but will also be looking at outtakes, deleted scenes...and worse...much worse...THE MUSIC VIDEO. No further information will be shared in public writings about that particular event, other than it will hurt.
3. I don't believe that if people hate each other, say because they fucked or killed a relative you cared about, that it is per se drama. However, if someone you know who attends this event happens to have committed such an act, I would ask that you smile politely, ignore them, and wait until they leave the common property before you murder them. And of course by murder I mean report them to the proper authorities in some legal way pursuant to the laws in the Commonwealth of Virginia, where under many conditions murder continues to be against local law for some silly reason.
8. I forgot what 8 was for (I still find that funny - so sue me Andy Kaufman)
vicarz: (Morons! All of you!)
1. My electric bill, since I haven't run the a/c, for the past 2 months has been about $25.
2. I filled up my tank and didn't believe it when my car reported per my math that I just got about 45 mpg in a non-hybrid car. Today I filled up to discover I got 38-39 mpg driving 65-75 avg for over 300 miles.
(hybrids only get about 50 mpg but cost about 25% more than my regular stick-shift civic ex)
3. I have suffered such bad losses with my RIMM gamble going down 18% that I might as well have left the ac and tv on 24/7, and filled my fuel efficient car with sand because I could have bought my honda all over again for the amount I lost in that RIMM job.
